Ash has a considerable history and pedigree
in its use in many demanding areas. Its resilient properties
marked it out for over a thousand years as the material of
choice for sport and combat. In hurling the hurley stick has
always been made from ash and the sport was a recognised way
of resolving disputes albeit in a far more aggressive manner
than
today's sports. Similarly ash has been used for martial arts
in the Far East and more recently for base ball bats in the
USA. Among its other uses has been the construction of boat
decking.
Ash
has been crafted by cabinet makers in great quantities for
centuries because of its resilient and elastic characteristics.
It is often used as a base material for veneers and laminates
and because of its whiteness has also been popularly used
as a stained substitute for oak.
Carlton House Furniture offer high quality
ash in solid wood construction. Ash is light and could be
mistaken for oak – it has a similar depth and hue. However
its resilient hardwood properties make it a fashionably clean
and fresh alternative
